Our plans for the Vocational Training Centre have run into a few difficulties and the opening of this facility has been postponed indefinitely.
Of course the requirement for vocational training for our non-academic orphans and vulnerable children cannot be postponed. Accordingly we are planning to develop a small pilot project to be delivered in existing facilities at our Rescue Home.
The intention is to start with just two courses and a small number of trainees learning either dressmaking/tailoring/knitting, sign making or pottery. We have available space in the existing school block and in a disused barn. We are actively seeking sewing machines, knitting machines, potters wheels and a kiln.
Equally important are skilled vocational teachers who can design and deliver a practical training programme of between six and twelve months duration that would equip our children with the skills needed to support themselves and to develop as responsible adults. If you are a retired vocational training teacher or have the skills necessary to help us deliver this programme and you would be prepared to volunteer your services for a year then we would be delighted to hear from you.
